Education is not only acquiring information but also an art of acquiring the right information to equip oneself and applying the same in the desirable context. It could neither be limited to a segment of individual nor could be restricted within the boundaries of caste, creed and religion. Thanks to the advancement of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), which has been playing a pivotal role in this context and particularly in enhancing the quality of professional education in developing world. It is in this context, the School of Distance Learning of SVKM’s NMIMS University plays a crucial role to meet the social commitments for higher and professional education of young aspirants.

The potentiality of Open and Distance Learning (ODL has been well accepted by one and all, which has in-built mechanism to adopt the flexible method of delivery to meet the educational needs of the diverse groups of professionals separated by space and time. It is, therefore, our constant endeavour to provide quality based professional education through distance mode, for which the University is committed, to a large segment of professionals keeping in view the global market demands.

The NMIMS is one of such first generation management institutions in this country, which had launched distance education programmes for upgrading professional skills of those who engaged in various corporate houses. Its experience with the corporate houses has exposed its commitment to introduce on-line education with the support of modern communication technologies. This mission is still at its initial stage and we hope to place the same more extensively for the benefit of our learners very soon.

Developing need based courses for our learners have been a major challenge for the SDL. Our courses are mostly market-oriented and designed to suit the needs of corporate houses. The flexible delivery mode of courses is another milestone that the School has evolved to bridge the gap between the workplace and the institution to facilitate learning.T he well designed self-learning study material, Audio CDs support through personal contact programmes, extending facilities through library resources, continuous evaluation of learners performance, opportunity in handling live projects, etc are the major delivery mechanism provided by the School to its learners.

The wide range of programmes offered by the SDL ensures meeting the diversified professional needs – be they executives, lower and middle management professionals, graduates or even housewives.
We assure to meet every learning need of our learners with a view to enriching their learning experience.
